from urbnet.com:
For their debut release, global-spanning, loosely organized group Done keep it short, sweet and socially relevant. How to Own a Shadow opens with a slick intro that takes advantage of a slamming beat and a couple of great vocal samples from The Happening: “It seems like things have got more sensitive now,” Mark Walberg is heard to say. From there it’s a bunch of sensitive guy raps that serve as political and social moral tales. The bulk of the lyrics are handled by id obelus, the Star City, Indiana emcee with a very recognizable nasal flow, although he does get occasional assistance here and there from S.L.A.P., an emcee from Bad Kreuznach, Germany who raps in German, and Nomar Slevik, who is more locally located in Freepoint, Maine. Slevik also sings the chorus on many songs and provides the dark production alongside Marcelo Martins of Alto Paraiso, Brazil. It’s great that technology can make something like this possible, but it would have been great to have more interaction between the individual artists. Regardless, it all ends up fairly cohesive and creative. And I’m sure their next release will be a much tighter group effort. [Thomas Quinlan]

God Loves Ugly
Kruxify asked me to join him on a rewrite of this classic Atmosphere track. I don’t usually do this sort of thing but, it’s such a great song. We interpreted the hook and put our own spin on it. Enjoy!

Id Obelus and Richard Cook are… Creatures Of Habit
Id Obelus and Richard Cook. These two Indiana natives
have been making rap music independently
since the early to mid 80’s. On this their debut
album together, Richard Cook provides the beats
while both mc’s showcase their unique lyrical skills.
The album provides an onslaught of self deprecation,
braggadocio, and tidbits of off kilter subject matter.
These two veteran mc’s go off on a rant of epic proportions,
tackling subjects that most “Local Cats” consider taboo.
This album captures the essence of the music they grew up on and; at the same time, is not your typical throwback rap.
If any of this interests you in the least bit,
please investigate the situation further.

Parallel 14 (presents… Marcelo Martins)
Paralelo 14 from arthur moura on Vimeo.
Parallel 14 is the third film by Arthur Moura. The documentary shows the transition from the life of an artist surrounded by references to urban life in the midst of nature in the search for the true value of simplicity. For fifteen days follows the life of Arthur Marcelo Martins in the town of Alto Paraíso – GO – Brazil. Marcelo is a tattoo artist and producer of bands like Fourth Dimension, DONE, Darkworshippers, Melancholic Tendencies, Gong Nubian, and other partnerships with Flow, Jungle Commando, Nomar Slevik, and others.
Marcelo Martins is a long time online collaborator and friend of mine. Check out this documentary about him. It’s in his native language… even if you “não compreender” (don’t comprehend), the music and visuals are dope! plus you can here a DONE track around the 10 min. mark w/ me.
